It's interesting that those buildings were recorded on an ordinace survey map I have dated 1908. It appears from old photos that Queens Drive was widened (in the 30s?) to two lanes, leaving these row of shops in tact. I remember the Chandler (on the corner) and "Charters" well, even though I'm younger than you. :-)
Sciptor, you may be interested in a mid-1950s photo of Broadgreen Rd, just 500yds away.
Thanks Jamese - So many memories. I used to buy my fireworks from that sweet shop on the corner. I think we came up here from by the Rocket because there was too much chance of our parents seeing if we bought them at the Rocket!
It's strange how some buildings or artifacts stick in ones mind. That garage always intrigued me as a child - perhaps it was one of those garages that seemed to be "out in the middle of nowhere" to my way of thinking?
It was a graveyard for old taxis in the late 60s/early 70s as I recall.
Thanks - keep them coming. By the time I took the 'Mrs Judsons' photo the split had moved a few yards and Score Lane was blocked off. That, and the style of the police panda, make me wonder if the Score Lane photo was a little earlier - perhaps mid 60s.
Mid 60s - could be!? Although I do need to check the negatives, Dad dated almost every film strip. So will do in time, if I can find that shot! :-D
I roughly dated it based on the drainage works that were about to go on prior to work on Queens Drive, ie cutting down the trees. So yes, maybe c1966-1970? Although I'm not conveniced it's pre-1966 TBH.
That's near the end of current and relevant "print finds", and so it's on to the negatives next, but that will be quite some months away I'm afraid, as there are 3000~10000+ various shots to look at!
Just fantastic to see those shops again. The Lune cleaners. I've searched and searched and here they are. I was born in '62. Through this page, also found other great pix of the area. Anything of Forbes House?
Glad you enjoyed it Andrew. I don't think I've got any of Forbes House (the TA barracks). If you haven't been there you'll also enjoy jamese's flickr page - http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamese007uk/

Well I checked out Jameses photos earlier but just took another look, and hasn't he just put up six new ones!! Forbes House and the Gladstone mission! My mother used to go to Pram Club there in the 60's. I Live in Russia now so didn't see Forbes being knocked down. Everytime I go back yo Liverpool, seems there are massive changes.
